Stahman's Shawls and Scarves
Includes instructions for knitting 14 Faroese-shaped shawls and 40 Seamen's scarves. Learn about the characteristics of traditional Faroese shawls, the Stahman adaptation of these shawls and the history of the Seamen's neck scarf. A discussion of the knitting techniques used, including provisional cast-on, picking up stitches, increasing, knitting from charts and dressing your completed shawls and scarves is included. Many of the shawls and scarves are knit from charts; some are knit from written instructions.

Patterns for a number of the Seamen's scarves are provided in both written and chart form. Knitters of all skill levels will enjoy these patterns which range from the simple garter stitch Fenna shawl and Seamen's scarf to challenging lace patterns that incorporate yarn overs, various decreases, twisted stitches and mini-cables. Enjoy the freedom one experiences when knitting a Seamen's scarf or a Faroese-shaped shawl from the top down because gauge is not an important factor.
